Mother Nature is no joke.
This morning (March 11) an 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Northeast of Japan. Devastation caused by the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks was coupled by a tsunami it caused that hit the coast shortly thereafter, leaving entire towns submerged in water and more destruction in its path.
So far hundreds of people have already been declared dead, with thousands more injured.
The United States is keeping Japan in its prayers (President Barack O’Bama has pledged aid) and the hip-hop nation also took to Twitter to voice their support.
“To all my ppl in Japan Stay United & We Are Praying For You Strong On This End. personal friends hit me up so I know ur ok. #concerned,” tweeted Freddie Foxx aka Bumpy Knuckles, who also noted Japan’s strong support of hip-hop culture.
Wyclef Jean is familiar with disaster relief efforts considering his native Haiti had its own devastating earthquake in January 2010. The former Fugee tweeted, “My deepest condolences to the ppl of Japan, stay strong. I am currently on the ground in Haiti campaigning w at presidentmicky”
Some artists kept their messages short and to the point.
“God bless japan !!!,” tweeted Styles P.
“Send my condolonces to the ppl in #japan right now! … and every city or country affected by this situation!,” tweeted Raekwon.
Others took this tragedy as a moment to reflect a bit more on life.
“My prayers go out to everyone in japan!!! We have to love one another and come together as a planet!!!!,” tweeted Chris Brown, also adding, “Life is way too precious to waste on ignorance!!! We have to come together!!! All of us! Every race, gender, etc. I love you all.”
“#prayforjapan this is serious people...what is happening to the world?,” tweeted UK producer Alex Da Kid.
“GOD BLESS everyone in Japan and anyone affected by this disaster- you are in every thought and prayer!!,” tweeted Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Hours later the Bad Boy Records CEO tweeted information about donating to relief efforts: “EVERYBODY!! Please text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to #Japan & Pacific #tsunami relief-> http://bit.ly/eZJDoJ GOD BLESS.”
