Celebrity press first with Obama

HONOLULU — For the second time in the first four days of Barack Obama's vacation, paparazzi have come away with more intimate pictures of the future president than the photographers who follow him day in and day out.

The photos, posted at the website of Just Jared Inc., capture Obama in a private moment on Tuesday as he scattered his grandmother's ashes off the coast of the Pacific.

The photographer captured 10 photographs — nine of the president-elect and his family at the site where he scattered the remains of his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, and one outside the church where the family held a private memorial service.

In one, Obama is standing barefoot at Lanai Lookout, wearing kahaki pants with the cuffs rolled up and a blue button-down shirt, tossing flower petals into the ocean. In another, he and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, are shown scattering their grandmother's ashes together.

At the time, the pool photographers were sitting in a bus out of sight to give the president-elect and his family some privacy.

Michelle Obama is also pictured, and the photographer identified a family friend, Bobby Titcomb.

On Sunday, a paparazzo snapped photographs of the Obamas outside their beachfront vacation home in Kailua, including a shirtless president-elect and Michelle Obama with their 7-year-old daughter, Sasha.

An Obama transition spokesperson did not respond to a request seeking comment on the more recent photos
